ee = LO THEMIS . oncosiounssec answers? Why is there such willingness to pursue instead this mad hunt based on accusation, hunch and vindictive rumour? To draw an overused but uncomfortably appropriate parallel, America’s infamous House Committee on Un-American Activities (best known for its high profile attacks on American people who were supposedly ‘commu- nists’), literally ruined the lives of hundreds of innocent people because accusation bred unshakable suspicion and was accepted by many as outright truth. The reputations and aspirations of a number of the most dedicated, talented, and hard-working student leaders of this college are at stake. I just hope the passionate and bloody execution waits long enough to hear the dull anticlimax of clear judgment. Elliot Fox-Povey DCSS Theatre Representative & Committee Speaker Where were you on the night of...? Being a concerned student, I’m wonder- ing what's going on. I’m hearing all these allegations about the executives of our infamous DCSS, and yet it seems they don’t care! With the ongoing impeach- ment petition going around, I’m ; wondering what's more important: Our DCSS or a protest. It seems that the DCSS is faltering and going down fast. Why aren't these people, in the above picture [front page photo Vol. 22 Issue 16} doing anything positive to fix the “DCSS MESS.” As a student it shows that the people that I have elected are not doing their elected jobs. They are off gallivanting around Vancouver protest- ing when there are way more important issues at hand about our society. If anything this has taken all my confi- dence, that I may have had for the executives, away. Also one more issue at hand. I am hearing two sides of one story. I want to know what the hell is right or wrong. If the executives mentioned on the impeachment petition are working on the idea that they are absolutely not in the wrong, then why don’ they agree to the damn Special General Meeting that is requested. By them not wanting this meeting to happen it shows me that the allegations I am hearing are absolutely true. The mentioned executives seem scared. Come out from behind closed doors and prove yourself to me and fellow students. If not, then I don’t what the hell to do or think. Keith Cowie What have we been smoking? I have just finished reading the article “THC report makes an impact.” In this article you mention “entrepreneurial and employment programs may be offered.” This is not true since there currently is such a program. The directions program is an entrepreneurial and employment program run through Centre 2000 and funded by HRDC; we have been at THC since October. Marie E. The Douglas College student society building was hit by thieves on Sunday, January 25, and again sometime during Monday, January 26. Taken on Sunday was about $3000 worth of computer equipment from the new DCSS office, on the second floor of the new DCSS building. One computer and one colour printer that had yet to be hooked up were taken. “I got an adapter, and no printer,” sobbed Rick the office mensch, looking very disappointed. But it was the second theft which has everyone really stymied. The change machine from the games room right next door to the burglarized office was ripped from the wall sometime on Monday, badly damaging the wall’s plaster. An estimated $1500 was inside the $4500 machine. Altogether, machine and change weighed approximately 450 pounds. The new building’s cafeteria was also targeted, but the jimmied drawers offered no booty, according to the DCSS. Another salient detail: there was no sign of forced entry to the building itself. ...At a glance, it appears to be a large, red brick building, made largely of concrete... Douglas College students injured on 8th Three Douglas College students were injured while crossing 8th Street on their way from the College. ; The accident, on January 20, took place when three young women were crossing the street to the Subway across from Douglas College. Witnesses say that a fire truck, which was about to turn right from Agnes Street, stopped to let the women cross the street when a yellow car struck all three girls. The car was going about 30 or 40 km/h. One of the victims was hit head-on and flew 5 to 10 feet in the air, screaming loudly. The impact was enough to knock her out of one shoe, which rolled down the hill. Witnesses said it was raining and the driver could not stop his car in time. Two other women were hit as well, but not as badly. Luckily, the fire truck was there at the scene and the firemen were able to respond immediately. The driver seemed shaken about the accident. The police arrived shortly thereafter; so far, no charges have been filed. Are you stuck between a rock and a hard place? Got a tough decision to make?
