aes ee January 15, 1987. ue teeeennen 9 QO On January 9 and 10, Gordon Gilgan attended a weekend workshop on the subject of education in arts management, jointly sponsored by SFU and Douglas College, with funding from the Bronfman Foundation. Mr. Gilgan tells me that the Conference was most successful, with representation from other educational institutions, provincial arts organizations, government and business. Information tabled at that conference will be of considerable use in the development of our own programs in Arts Management within the College. MAD HATT Today, January 15, I attended a meeting of other CEO's interested in co-operative projects between colleges. This committee is developing projects that bring institutions together for the purpose of pooling resources to achieve system-wide objectives. An example, is the creation of an “electronic mail" or messaging system linking up colleges and institutes, the ministry, and the BCAC. Other projects being considered include program assessment and evaluation systems, and joint curriculum development projects. C. Internal Matter - Education Spring Registration was from January 6th to the 8th. Technically the registration ran with exceptional smoothness - sadly, with many Oo hundreds of students being left unsatisfied, or unable to register at all. Dr. DellaMattia will be providing further information on this subject in due course. Qn January 9, the Deans, and the Bursar spent the day refining College assumptions for the creation of our 5-Year Plan. These assumptions, together with the Board's views on certain major issues, were provided to a college-wide meeting yesterday. The attendance was excellent, with energetic questioning. D. Internal Matters - Personnel On December 19, there was a very pleasurable Christmas reception. Faculty, administrators, staff and Board Members were in attendance. It is a pleasure to announce the successful candidate for the vacant position of Systems & Computing. Marshall Price, the previous incumbent, was the successful competitor. BCGEU negotiations have resulted in a decision to seek a strike mandate from the Local's membership. Formal announcements on this topic will be made by the BCGEU in due course. WLD/gb
