MAD HATTER NEW AUDIO VISUAL ACQUISITIONS January, 1987 THE EARTH EXPLORED SERIES 14 video programs - 30 mins each including: Vocanoes: Mount St. Helens, Surtsey, Hawaii, Heimay and other volcanic eruptions provide an explosive backdrop to an under- standing of igneous activity in and on the earth. Geothermal Energy: The earth's interior provides a great deal of heat which can possibly be captured for man's use. The program explains the dynamics which are involved in using geothermal resources, explores the prerequisite structure below the earth's surface which allows geothermal sources to be tapped, examines methods for translating geothermal reserves into usable energy and visits locations where the process is being used. Glaciers: Glaciers have carved vast canyons on the earth's surface and left behind clues to previous environments which existed millions of years ago. This program explores the various conditions which are necessary for the formation of glaciers and travels the world to examine the various features they have created. Deserts: Deserts occupy almost one-fifth of the entire earth's surface, yet the popular perception that they are merely vast tracts of sand only tells part of the story. This program reviews the processes which are necessary to create a desert, showing the physical processes such as wind action and the resultant products found in modern and ancient desert environments and formations. ---OVeEr
