New dual credit agreements signed On November 25, in the Boardroom of the New Westminster Campus, an articulation agreement was signed between Douglas College and school districts in Coquitlam, Maple Ridge-Pitt Meadows, Surrey, Richmond and Delta. The agreement puts the finishing touches on a dual credit program in sports sciences and leisure studies, giving qualified students the opportunity to take college-level courses while still in high school. School superintendents, College deans and vice presidents who signed the agreement welcome this chance to increase cooperation between levels of education in the area. The agreement is designed to allow qualified students to accelerate their studies, as well as to encourage early commitment to a career path by increasing academic focus and retention, and ease the transistion into college. Students will be able to develop a meaningful six-year course sequence from grade 11 through college, and on to a degree at the university level. The classes are offered at the secondary schools, taught by secondary school teachers, and are available for no additional fee over the cost of the textbook. This new agreement adds another field of study, one with growing employment ‘opportunities, to the already wide range of choices available to high school students. Jf School district Superintendents from Coquitlam, Maple Ridge-Pitt Meadows, Surrey, Richmond and Delta joined College deans, vice presidents and President Lloyd Morin to sign the new articulation agreement for physical education courses.
