Her novel The Butterfly Chair (published by Random House) won the W.H. Smith -_ Books in Canada - $5000 Award for the best first novel published in Canada in 1987. She writes: There is a question which is invariably asked of fiction writers, and which invariably makes me irritable, because it makes me think a reader is trying to avoid something, not find it. "Is ita true story?” readers seem to ask — or do | sometimes imagine this ? -- and I create an answer as full of directions and misdirections, implicit with truth and aching with lies, as the landscape of the story itself.
