Mad Hatter Page 18 PRESIDENT"S REPORT E. Internal - Personnel (Cont'd) During my vacation period, from July 23rd to August 13th, Bill Morfey and Jim Doerr were Acting Presidents. Apparently, in my absence, everything ran very smoothly, and there is nothing of substance to report for that period. Work is ongoing with regard to an application from the Bi C;1.T. Staff Society to the Labour Relations Board with regard to the transfer of B.C.I.1. faculty to Douglas College. We have been working closely with the Douglas/Kwantlen Faculty Association in this regard, as well as with B.C.I.T. The transfer of faculty has proceeded smoothly and there are now ten former B.C.I.T. faculty at work here at Douglas. Internal - General On July 4th, 5th and 6th, I attended a three-day workshop on institutional renewal, which was an extremely vauable experience for me. The information and insights gained at that workshop will be of help to me and the College. An organized child-minding service has been planned and will be in Operation this fall. It is a pleasure to acknowledge the contribu- tion of the faculty, staff and administration members who gave of their time on this project. The personnel involved were Barbara Mowatt, Rita Chudnovsky, Cathleen Smith, Randi Duke, Marian Exmann and Gerry DellaMattia. During the week of August 13th, the primary activity of the senior administration of the College was the refining of a budget strategy Proposal for the fiscal year 1985/86, during which there will be a forecast reduction of $1.5 million in the College budget. This Strategy proposal will be presented to the Board tonight during a closed meeting. Yesterday, I met with the Administrative Review Committee of the College - a representative committee of faculty, staff and administration, which has been reviewing administrative structures and processes of the College for the purposes of improvement. The report has been received and I expect that in the near future it will be published. Thereafter, there will be a series of responses and actions based on many of the recommendations in that report. The steering committee of that project has done an excellent job and it is a pleasure to name Sue Skinner, Jay McGilvery, Jim Sator, and Gerry DellaMattia as parti- cipants. Staff work was ably carried out by Walter Hogg, our consul- tant. The report will also be presented to the Finance, Facilities and Personnel Committee of the Board, which will be interested in the insights the report will provide to College operations.
