The same morning Kim Campbell was fi- nally holding her first leadership press conference, Psych Nursing’s Gloria Kum- merfield was besieged by reporters during her March 25 birthday reception. Demonstrating the savvy of a politician while snacking on Bavarian Cream-laced cake, Kummerfield said only nice things about her department when pressed for "dirt" by INside staff. Tougher still, she stuck to her guns about turning 34 - again. | am [_INside wT” Busy times for Irene... Accounting Convenor Irene Griswold has certainly been keeping busy during the last few months. Irene married Tom Newell on December 28 and enjoyed a month-long honeymoon traveling to Niag- ara Falls, Memphis, Texas and California by rail. She also completed a Master’s degree in International Business Admini- stration from the East Asia International University and was elected the president of the university’s Alumni Association, Vancouver Chapter. She’s the boss... Athletic Director Betty Lou Hayes finally found out her secret nickname during the College’s Athletic Awards Banquet on March 24. During the ceremonies, women’s basketball coach Richard Norman presented Betty Lou with a green sweatshirt inscribed with the name he’s been calling her all these years: "She who must be obeyed."... Steve, who led his team to a national silver medal, is now taking a few seasons off to devote more time to his family. All-Canadian Tilly Woods was named Female Athlete of the Year; Tilly will study in Japan next year and plans to play some intramural ball there. All-Cana- dian Vern Knopp was named Male Athlete of the Year. Staff moves... Welcome back to Library Collection Control Assistant Lisa Baer, who re- turned to her position March 29 after a prolonged hiatus in Japan...Welcome also to Dale Picketts, a Payroll Clerk who joined the College on April 1...Shelley Hay shifts into the Accounts Receiv- able/Cashier spot within the Registrar's @D Office while Lorraine Falardeau of CP&S moves into Shelley’s old job of Records Assistant...Evelyn Terada of CP&S also moves to the Registrar’s Office as an Assistant Clerk. A tip of the INside Zone hat to the Sports Institute’s Chris Johnson, who will re- ceive a Canadian 125th Commemorative medal in ceremonies at the New Westmin- ster City Hall on April 17. The bearded one receives the Royally-sanctioned medal commemorating the 125th anniver- sary of Confederation. The medal is 9 "intended to be given to honor persons who have made significant contribution to their fellow citizens, their community or to Canada."
