INSIDE DOUGLAS COLLEGE / SEPTEMBER 5, 1989 Pat on the Back Contest Recognizes College Employees Last month, as part of our 20th Anniversary celebration, the Public Information Office ran the Pat on the Back contest in which Douglas College faculty and staff members were nominated for contributing above and beyond the call of duty. The winner, Sheri Walker, won a three-day trip to Las Vegas. Below are the other submissions, all worth our recognition. Chris Johnson - Who is at the College morning, noon, or night, weekdays and weekends? Who volunteers his time to be a Master of Ceremonies at various events like the Alumni dinner or serve as a director on the Douglas College Foundation Board? Who tries to ensure that kids in the community have good coaches and fun in their sporting careers? Who brings dedication and a smile to his students? Who tells the worst jokes besides Hank Naylor? Chris Johnson! P.S. Please let this man go to Las Vegas so he can pick-up some better jokes. Jean MacDonald - She remains cool and calm at her job even when the area gets busy. She presents a pleasant and informative manner when dealing with the constant flow of people asking her where, why and how. She is deserving of recognition. Jack Kelly - ‘Cause he still opens doors for ladies. ‘Cause he is from the cretaceous era. ‘Cause he said if I didn’t pat him on the back he would blast me with his 457 magnum. Tricia Bird - She works in the Registrar's office at the front counter. She is extremely conscientious to assist with enquiries and often goes out of her way to find information for students. Her job can be very demanding and stressful at times, but she maintains her helpful attitude throughout. Marilyn Attwood - Despite the constant pressure of looming deadlines in the Public Information Office she keeps her great sense of humour. Marilyn also deserves a pat on the back for being eager to learn and for developing excellent desktop design skills that benefit the entire College. Heather Campbell - Heather is a great photographer. What's more, she is always accommodating. Heather makes that extra effort to be on location to take photos, then works hard in the dark room to meet short deadlines. Somehow she manages to keep smiling through the whole ordeal. Renata Hucul - Renata is consistently pleasant and always willing to help in anyway possible if other departments require help. Rob Linschoeten - Rob has done a great job of opening up 1.M.S. and making it accessible to the entire college community. He is always available and open to ways of making the work at the College flow smoothly. He definitely deserves a pat on the back. Jean Easton - Mainly because she thought of others. She always had time to listen - whether the speaker was glad, sad, or mad. She cared. She thought of others when she went out on a limb and ordered clothing, cards and gift items for the store that is supposed to carry “books and stationery”. It’s not only nice, it’s important to have (have had) people like Jean to help the positive image of the College. She also gave a lot of her time to be the B.C.G.E.U. chairperson and was diligent and honest in her dealings with management and staff. A perfect employee and wonderful person. June Anderson - Because she is here every morning before 8:30 am, and sometime here ’til after 4:30 pm. If you’re feeling down she brings you up with her high spirits. She always wears a smile even if she is grumpy. She has the patience to deal with some of the most difficult people I’ve ever met. Arnie Driver - Arnie, and his fellow workers in the print shop, have done a monumental job over the past eight years - extraordinary productivity, service mindedness, and high quality /accuracy of output. They deal perpetually in rushes and emergency situations with aplomb and good nature. continued on page 5 4
