The first two matches were very slow after excellent initial volleys, with both games falling decisively to Douglas, 15 to 8 and 15 to 10. The best volleyball erupted in the third game when Trinity suddenly came alive. Douglas set up far more spikes than Trinity (almost a two to one ratio), but was frustrated by the amazing blocks of Trinity's Jeff Warren (#5) and Joe Becker (#3). Brian Newman, Douglas’ coach, was disappointed with his team’s perform- ance, saying, “They were asleep the first two games! You could hear a pin drop in this place it was so quiet. Third and fourth games they used their heads and we got some good volleyball in here.” Newman was pleased, however, with the performance of Ken Kilpatrick (#13) and Tom McLellen (#15) noting, “The middles hit and blocked really well.” Wich the regular season now over, the next hurdle for the teams will be the BCAA championships in two weeks time. Both teams being rated number one, the expectations are high. Susan Sharp stated, “If we play the way we can, I expect to win [the BCAA].
