The course will include instructions in pronunciation and intonation, SWEDISH 2 is a continuation course (intermediate course) for those with a basic know- ledce of Swedish, one or two terms of study, The course aims to incre vocabulary to about 1.500 words and extend knowledge of gramn Training in listening comprehension and speaking at a normal tempo will be emphasised. SWEDISII 3 is an advanced course for those with a good knowledge of Swedish one or tWo ycurs university study. Literary texts and news articles will aid it extending vocabulary and grammar. Written exercises will include written descriptions, reports, and exercises in note-taking. SWEDISH ARCHITECTURE AND URBAN PLANNING Our surroundings ate reflections of technincal, economic, and political growth. The course aims to enrich understanding of architectural history and changing toWa Structure. As the old milieu has been replaced by the new, greater consideration is being given to the appearance and organisation of our surroundings. The course will tuke up the theoretical, technical and economic aspects of these considerations under the following headings: ‘ @ Swedish architectural construction from viking times to today. @ Swedish housing from the beginning of industrialization to now with emphasing on post-war problems. @ Swedish interior decoration from the turn of the century to the present. @ Developments in urban planning during the 1900's. Study visits will be made to points of historical interest and to some modern Swedish constructions of special interest from the viewpoint of architecture and urban planning. Panel discussions will take up questions of current debate in this field. SOCIAL WELFARE POLICY IN SWEDEN Social reforms in Sweden have been widely discussed. Alongside a theore- tical study of concepts and tasks of social planning, attention will be given to present debate on questions about social policy. This course will take up the main features, formation strategy and costs of: @ policies of economic distribution @ programs to encourage full employment @ protective labor legislation @ education reforms @ housing programs and Jegislation @ care and service to different groups Study visits will be made to relevant social institutions where students can see how these social policies work in practice and where questions can be asked directly to those working in the field.
