Athletics Update Golf: The final tournament of the B.C.C.A.A. Golf Championships was played October 15th and 16th at the scenic but tough Fair Winds Golf and Country Club near Nanaimo. The Douglas College golf team represented by Brian Kil- lins, Derrin Geisheimer, Willis Pamell, Steve Tindle and Adam White finished third behind Malaspina College and Simon Fraser Univer- sity. The Douglas team played consistently throughout the tourna- ment and finished with a stroke average of 79.5. The already difficult Fair Winds course was made even tougher by wel, soggy conditions. Top scorer for Douglas was Brian Killins with rounds of 77 and 78 over the two days. The low gross score for the tournament was tured in by Dave Bennett of S.F.U. with rounds of 70 and 75. The final standings for the tournament were: 1. Malaspina College 2. Simon Fraser University 3. Douglas College 4, University of B.C. 5. Cariboo College 6. Fraser Valley College In the final standings for the 1988 B.C.C.A.A. Championships, Douglas finished second behind Malaspina with Fraser Valley Col- lege finishing third. In the spring of 1989 the Douglas golf team will be competing in junior college tour- naments in Washington State before concluding the year with a trip to the Monterey Peninsula to play courses such as Pebble Beach and Spyglass. Hockey: Douglas College defeated BCIT Saturday, October 15 at Four Rinks 6-4 in exhibition play. The team now stands at one win and one loss. Next game is against Abbotsford at the MSA arena, Saturday, Oct. 22nd at 8:00 pm. Badminton: Badminton players! Get involved now with the In- tramural Badminton Ladder. Douglas College Golf team. Volleyball: The Douglas College men’s and women’s volicyball teams sponsored a 10-team Senior Boys Highschool Volleyball Tour- nament October 14 and 15. This was the first event of its kind to be held at Douglas on an annual basis. The final in this year’s event pitted Nanaimo District Secondary School (ranked 4th provincially) against arch rival G.P. Vanier of Comox. Nanaimo disposed of Vanier 15-6, 15-5. In the consola- tion finals, North Delta also defeated Yale Secondary in two very closely contested games. Tcams from as far as Vernon attended this year’s event. We are looking forward to a big- ger and better tournament next year.
