Wfaritinee Hfcussecun WHAT'S NEW AT THE MARITIME . . . a model of the American clipper "Sovereign of the Seas" is the best of its type in the Museum's extensive collection. The "Sovereign of the Seas" was the largest merchant ship afloat at the time of her launching in 1852. She became the first clipper to exceed 400 nautical miles in a 24-hour period, weathered storms, strandings, and mutinies, but was wrecked in the Strait of Malacca near Singapore in 1859. Another new attraction at the Maritime Museum, the working model of the former engine-room of the "Princess of Vancouver" continues to draw visitors. Early in June the long-awaited 28-foot steam launch "Antic" will arrive, the generous gift of Mr. Henry Hoffar of Sidney, B.C. The "Antic" is a fully refurbished and restored replica of the original, which operated in Vancouver Harbour before the turn of the century. She was built by Mr. Hoffar from the original plans twelve years ago, using a steam engine built in 1911 and a water-tube boiler built in 1912. Part of an inner wall at the Maritime Museum has been removed to allow the "Antic" to be brought in. special events OUTDOOR CONCERT.
