By Jenn Markham he earliest Disney sequel T could dig out of a comprehensive list was Rescuers Down Under in 1990, which followed Rescuers. The first title that actually included a ‘two’ was Duck Tales 2 in 1993.1 was under the impression that releasing sequels happened around the same time Walt Disney passed away, but we lost him way back in 1966. So although I can’t find exactly who is responsible, and oust them as the source of this evil, they know who they are. Disney sequels are a money grab. Although this isn’t a new notion, has it ever been questioned why they make any money at all? There are currently three renditions of Cinderella, on the condition they don’t crank out another. But my question is; who really cares about what happens in Cinderella III? It is true that not a single sequel was created while Walt Disney was alive. He created the classics and left them that way, special memories in our childhoods. I worry about the children who grow up in these future generations and opt to watch Lady and the Tramp II instead of the original Snow White and the 7 Dwarfs or Jungle Book. Aren’t these originals our bare necessities? My favourite Disney movie growing up was 101 Dalmatians, and I even enjoyed the real-life version with the same name. Now you can also add to your collection, 101 Dalmatians II and 102 Dalmatians, granted they’ re not stored away in the vault. On that notion, don’t you feel a bit bad for the poor soul that has to keep track of all these sequels releasing dates, re-releasing dates and special pearl edition releasing dates? I guess whoever they are can just be glad Land Before Time isn’t Disney, who was on their 12", before they seemed to have dropped the number with their three other movies released in the early two thousands. Although I haven’t heard a bad review of Toy Story 3 yet, it doesn’t change the fact that they should have left it alone at the first one and come up with a new idea.
