CORRECTIVE SPELLING THROUGH ¢ MORPHOGRAPHS ABE 220 : Morphographic Spelling I (1% credits) This offers a systematic treatment utilizing the “morphographic spelling" method of word analysis developed by Science Research Associates. It is appropriate for students who misspell words ranging in difficulty from hopeful and friend to runner, flies and ugliness. Students are taught a set of principles that deal with the structures of basic words and their additive elements which can then be applied to generate other correct spellings. ABE 320 : Morphographic Spelling II (1% credits) This builds on the skills learned in ABE 220, but is also appropriate for students whose errors are with more complicated words and who do not need to start with ABE 220. It extends the principles of morphographic analysis to cover more difficult polysyllabic words such as unnecessary, perceptible, controlled and adventurous. Special emphasis is placed upon students develop- © ing "systems" for coping with spelling irregularities. All of these courses carry college credit, run a full semester long and can be taken concurrently with any other program of courses. During registration week in January, ABE faculty will provide on-the-spot assessment and assist students with choosing the most appropriate course to'meet their needs.
