Institutional Staff Bill Bergquist pr. Bergquist is currently serving as Director of the Center for Organiza- tional Studies at the Wright Institute in Berkeley, California and as head of the Organizational Psychology program at the Professional School of Psychology in San Francisco. He has been actively involved for more than fifteen years as a consultant to over 300 colleges and universities throughout the United States and Canada in such areas as faculty, curriculum and administrative development, long term planning, and organizational development, as well as collegiate consultation and comprehensive institutional development. He has conducted numerous residential workshops on professional, instructional and organizational development. Eugene Rice pr. Rice is Professor and Chair of the Sociology Department at the University of the Pacific in Stockton, California, where his teaching and research focus on the sociology of the professions, organizational life, and adult develop- ment. He began his study of faculty lives while serving as Progra Executive for the Danforth Foundation and recently completed an assessment of a series of Northwest Area Foundation grants aimed at maintaining faculty vitality. That study was published during the Spring of 1985 under the title Faculty Lives: Vitality and Change. Or. Rice is a recent recipient of the Shaughnessy Scholars award which allowed him time to study the changing place of teaching and scholarship in contemporary society. He and Dr. Bergquist are currently writing a book on that theme. Dr. Rice has also consulted widely with colleges and universities, corporations, and national associations on such issues as careers and liberal learning, ethics in management, and the impact of organizational structures and policies on the individual.
