Mad Hatte | The A Douglas College Newslette r Nursing Directors Appointed Douglas College is pleased to announce that two new directors have been appointed. Mrs. Joy Holmwood has accepted the position of Director of General Nursing, effective February |5, and the Director of Psychiatric Nursing position was accepted by Mr. Ross Stewart. Mrs. Holmwood was the Acting irector of the Department of Nurs- @: at Douglas College for nine onths. A dedicated worker, she demonstrated sound management skills, leadership and motivation. Her background includes ten years instructional experience and substantial curriculum program development activities. She was the Director of the Community Psy- chiatric Nursing Program at Esson- dale and also worked in the Health Sciences Centre Hospital at UBC as a staff nurse for three years. As a registered nurse, Mrs. Holmwood has been active in both the Registered Nurses and Regis- tered Psychiatric Nurses Associ- ations of B.C. as well as numerous related committees. She has received a B.S.N. from U.B.C. and an M.S. from the University of Hawaii. Also with an impressive history, Mr. Stewart, a seasoned instructor with ten years teaching experience, has worked for eight years as a psy- chiatric nurse. He worked in a number of institutions ranging from Melrose, Scotland to Lion’s Gate Hospital. In addition, as Director of Educa- tion and Professional Practice of the Registered Psychiatric Nurses Association of B.C. (RPNABC) since 1984, Mr. Stewart provided staff services for all activities rela- ted to education and practice for the 2700 members of the professional registering body. He has significant experience in working with health care agencies, educational in- stitutions and government depart- ments regarding RPN education and practice issues. He has been very active in committee and professional memberships over a twenty year period, including the presidency of the RPNABC. Mr. Stewart received a Diploma in Psychiatric Nursing from both Es- sondale (RPN) and Dumfries, Scot- land. He has a Diploma in Technol- ogy Nursing (RN) from BCIT and has finished his Master of Health Sciences at McMaster University. Douglas College welcomes Mr. Stewart and wishes Mrs. Holmwood well in her new role at the College. This free hour and a half lecture will present Bishop De Roo’'s thoughts on possible solutions to the problems which push our planet towards the brink of extinction. Life and Death Economics’, is open to the public, and will be held one time only by the Douglas Colllege Humani- ties Institute at 1215 hours.
