TEACHERS TO THAILAND SUMMER 1987 Duration : 8 weeks (JULY 1st to AUGUST 26th) Price : #3 200 (all included) Purpose To provide teachers (elementary, secondary and college) interested in the Southeast Asian area with the opportunity to acquire first-hand information about this area, with emphasis on Thailand and its culture. This experience will enhance their intercultural awareness and understanding through direct participation in Thai family, school, and community life while providing more formal lectures and discussions about specific issues on Thai culture and education . The time spent with host families and in communities will allow the hosting community to learn more about Canada, its culture and educational system, and at the game time Canadian teachers will act as resources for the schools in both English language and social studies classes. Program outline One day pre-departure orientation in Vancouver. Depart for Thailand late evening. One free day to recover from jet lag; accomodations in host families in Bangkok for the first two weeks for the extended orientation. Ten day orientation in Bangkok. Following are examples of activities from past orientations - Overview of Thailand at the Tourism Authority Building. - Thai language lessons. - Formal session ''Thai Do's and Don'ts'', - Briefing on refugee problem and visit to refugee camp. - Lecture ''Economy of Thailand'', - Visit of Grand Palace and Royal Chapel - Bangkok tour of various educational and cultural institutions. The next six seeks will be spent living with a family outside the country's capital. Canadian participants will be affiliated with local schools and serve as resource persons in English and Social Studies classes. End of Stay Orientation to evaluate the program, relax and sightsee, Return to Canada.
