We had been on a couple great dates, we texted all the time, he made me laugh, and never made me cry. I was in serious like. So it was time to take the plunge and sleep over. At least, that was the plan. My boyfriend has the ability to fall asleep very quickly. However, Iam the opposite; it generally takes me a little while. So I was laying there in his bed, waiting for sleep to come to me, when I heard it—kind of a wheezy snort. At first it was only one, and then there were a few more sporadically coming from his side of the bed, but before long it was a full on snorefest. Needless to say, I didn’t get much sleep that night. As our relationship progressed, we started to spend more nights together, which meant more sleepless nights for me. As much as I enjoyed hanging out with him, the nightly appearance of the mighty Snorlax was killing me. I needed my sleep! First we tried those sexy little strips of white paper that go over your nose while sleeping— Breathe Right strips. They did nothing. Well, practically nothing. At almost $10 a pop, all they did was make it sound like I was sleeping next to Darth Vader. And as much as I may have dreamt about spending a night with one of the Star Wars stars, this isn’t exactly what I had in mind. Still loud, and still sleepless. Next were the earplugs. These have been the most successful snore-proofing equipment I’ve found yet. But, even this isn’t as simple as just going out and grabbing the first pair you see. I’ve tried at least four different kinds, colours, and brands—all with different results. My boyfriend and I have been dating four months now, and we spent more nights together than apart. I can generally sleep through most of the night, either with help of earplugs or having my headphones in with music playing. However, I’ve learned that if | wear the plugs every single night, then my ears get sore. So some nights I give my ears a break, tough it out, and let my elbows battle the mighty Snorlax in the quest for a good night's sleep. All in the name of love.
