On April 22, 1998 the Canadians host- ed their first Molson “What beer’s all about” nooner on a great sunny Wednesday afternoon. It was another close game against the Buzz as pitcher William VanLandingham only allowed one run in the first inning, then 3 runs in the sixth, and allowed 5 hits through six innings. C’s pitcher Geoff Edsell came in late in the sixth inning to get VanLandingham out of trouble. Edsell got the C’s into the ninth inning by only giv- ing up two hits in eight batters. The strong right hander-Chavez came on in the ninth to try for his third save. In the top of the ninth Chavez got into trouble early and put three men on base with two base on balls and another hit by a pitch. After a long and grueling inning, Chavez finally got Winnipeg native Corey Koskie to line out to C’s second baseman Justin Baughman. Another highlight of the game was Buzz pitcher Todd Ritchie. Ritchie is tom Duncanville, Texas, and played with e Minnesota Twins last season. Ritchie itched 2 innings of relief and had an ing 6 strikeouts. The last two games of the series were to be layed on the same night due to April showers the ight before. On April 24, 1998 the C’s had their rst 7 inning doubleheaders of the new season. The rst game was another win for the C’s as they opped the Buzz in the late innings by a score of 3. In the second game of the doubleheader the ’s were looking to sweep the series vs. the Salt Lake Buzz, but had troubles in the late innings. The C’s were trailing throughout the game and were los- ing 3—0 by the bottom of the fourth inning. The C’s started their comeback against tiring Buzz pitcher Travis Baptist. Baptist gave up a lead of home run to Steve Scarsone. It was Scarsone’s sec- ond of the night and first in the game. Last year Scarsone hit II home runs with the Las Vegas Stars. With one on and one out in the bottom of the sixth inning, the Buzz decided to bring in Todd Ritchie early to get the job done. After the next five batters the game was over. Ritchie came in and sat down five straight batters, giving him II strikeouts against [3 batters faced. The C’s lost the game 3—2 against the Buzz. The C’s record is now 7—9 after their first four series. The C’s hit the road to play the Omaha Royals and then face the first place overall Iowa Cubs before returning home to play _ the Edmonton Trappers on May S, 1998. '
