Ballroom packed for Visions of Excellence 2004 Entrepreneur Awards night More than 300 people packed the Grand Ballroom of the Executive Inn in Coquitlam on October 13 for the Visions of Excellence 2004 Entrepreneur Awards Night. The audience included members of the Douglas College Board, several VPs, staff, sponsors and, of course, graduates of the Self-Employment Program. The awards celebrate the outstanding achievements and successes of the program’s graduates. Course registration information for College employees Winter 2005 registration for College employees begins November 26. To receive priority registration, please be sure you fit into one of the following categories: 1. If you attended classes in the Fall 2004 semester: call the Office of the Registrar at 604- 527-5527 and identify yourself as a College employee planning to register for the Winter semester. 2. If you are a College employee with a student number and you did not attend classes in the Fall semester: complete an Application for Re-admission form to reactivate your student number (be sure to identify yourself as a ( ‘ollege employee when reapplying). Note: all re-applicants must meet the new College Entrance Requirement of English 12 with a grade of C or equivalent. 3. If you are a College employee without a student number: complete an Application for Admission form and return it to the Office of the Registrar as soon as possible. Be sure to identify yourself as a College employee when applying. Note: You must meet Douglas College Entrance requirements. CMO staffer Tana Frie parties for Douglas College at last year's A Class Act A Class Act serves up plethora of palate- pleasers and prizes Fine wine, great food, music and amazing auction prizes are on the menu at the seventh annual A Class Act fundraiser. The Douglas College Foundation event is expected to be sold out again this year by the time the doors of the Executive Plaza Hotel in Coquitlam open at 7pm, November 18. About 425 people are expected to attend. “It’s probably one of the largest fund-raising events in the Tri-Cities,” said Douglas College Foundation Executive Director Myrna Popove. “Tt’s a fun time, too.” The food this year is regional: there will be flavours from the Mediterranean, the West Coast, the Orient, spices of India, and Alberta beef fit for the Calgary Stampede. Service will be provided by the students of Douglas College's Hotel and Restaurant Management Program. There will be a live auction as well as a silent auction. Raised in Kentucky, Duke and her family moved to Canada in December, 2002. Her educational background includes: BS Health and Exercise Science from Furman University in South Carolina and an MS in Exercise and Sports Sciences (Biomechanics specialization) from the University of Florida. Lara Duke at University of Florida, a Biology instructor at Durham Technical Community College and taught in the Physical Education Faculty at North Carolina State University. Her research experience has been with running injuries as well as exercise rehabilitation programs for individuals with stroke (GF Strong Rehabilitation Centre). Pat Brown, former Coordinator of the Early Childhood Education Department, has been appointed Acting Dean for the Faculty of Child, Family and Community Studies. Brown started her duties as Acting Dean, October 15. She'll continue in this position until the search for a Dean of Child, Family and Community Studies is com pleted. Brown joined the Early Childhood Education faculty at Douglas College in 1978 as a contract instructor. She has been a regular, full-time faculty member since September 1987. Her Master of Arts Degree in Early Childhood Education is from the University of British Columbia. 'r a
