| " | Inform your students in class British Columbia Asia Pacific Students’ Awards Introduction The British Columbia Centre for International Education has received an allocation from the Ministry of Advanced Education, Training and Technology to fund the British Columbia Asia Pacific Students’ Awards program. The program has been established to provide an opportunity for British Columbia public post-secondary students to gain a better understanding of the cultures, economies and languages of Asian countries. The British Columbia Asia Pacific Students Awards’ will provide scholarships for outstanding British Columbia public post-secondary students to permit attendance in a formal and rigorous program of educational study overseas. A budget will be set annually by the Ministry of Advanced Education, Training and Technology for the Briush Columbia Asia Pacific Students’ Awards Prograin. The awards will be administered through the Bnush Columbia Centre for International Education and will be adjudicated by a committee repre- senting the British Columbia public post-secondary system. Conditions 1) To be eligible for the British Columbia Asia Pacific Students’ Awards, the applicant must be a Canadian citizen or landed immigrant, a B.C. resident and enrolled in full-time study at a British Columbia public post-secondary institution. 2) Individuals are encouraged to utilize existing linkages between British Columbian and overseas institutions whenever possible. 3) Awards will be in predetermined amounts according to the country of study and are intended to be applied towards travel and living expenses. The student’s study program overseas must commence within one year of notification of receipt of an award. 4) Proof of registration and proof of attendance at an overseas institution must be forwarded to the student’s International Liaison Officer in his/her home institution, at the mid-point of the study program abroad. 5) Study programs overseas must last a minimum of one semester (typically 3 months) but may not exceed 12 months in duration. 6) The successful applicant will be required to submit to the International Liaison Officer at his/her home institution a brief written report (maximum of 10 pages) within one month of the completion of his/her study program. The report should outline the academic program of study at the overseas institution, examine the advantages and disadvantages of the program and the stay abroad, mention the types of activities the participant was involved in outside of the academic program and include a transcript of the courses taken. 7) Individuals may receive only one award from this program during any five-year period. 8) Applications must be submitted to the International Liaison Officer of the applicant’s home institution using the approved application form. 9) The deadline for submission of applications will be Nov. 1, 1990, Feb. 1, 1991, July 1, 1991. 10) Individuals who accept these awards are responsible for arranging their own travel, study program, accommodation, transfer of academic credits and all other details of their stay abroad. 11) Individuals who accept these awards will normally receive their funds in two payments: one at the outset of their program; and, one mid-point through the program, upon receipt of the documenta- tion required in 4 above.
