THANKS Miguel Angel ESTRELLA, an Argentinian pianist and a friend of mine, has finally been released from prison and arrived in Paris, on Saturday: Miguel Angel had been. charged of harbouring "Subversive" individuals in his temporary home in Uruguay and was jailed without trial for three years and two months. An international committee, headed by Yehudi Menuhin, organized a campaign for his release. The Vancouver committee joined in soon after and SFU and Douglas College are the two largest groups in Canada to have participat- ed in this campaign. Thank you all, students, staff and faculty, who, with your signature on telegrams to the UN and to the Uruguayan authorities or with your purchase of Miguel Angel's special record, have contributed to his release. Unfortunately, he is one lucky person out of thousands deprived of their human rights in Latin America. The latest report from Amnesty International is very grim. Let's hope that we will continue our efforts to put pressure on those Latin American governments who do not respect human rights. oe ee Sabine Mabardi (Modern Languages) iol. =
