This year, students will continue to fight Gordon Campbell’s Liberal government's attack on accessible education. At Douglas College, these attacks have resulted in the cancellation of the Habitat Restoration Program, and the closure of the Thomas Haney Campus. Changes to the student financial assistance program have meant higher student debt loads and fewer opportunities for on-campus employment. Students also face a 30 percent tuition fee increase, a $400.00 per year hike for full time students. By working together, students can effect change in government policies. In recent years, students have secured tuition fee freezes and reductions, improvements in student financial assistance and greater participation in College decision-making. Over the coming year, this work will continue. We urge you to get more involved in your Union and join the campaign for accessible education.
