INSIDE DOUGLAS COLLEGE /JULY 3, 1990 DOUGLAS COLLEGE EDUCATIONAL GOVERNANCE SYSTEM "THE EDUCATION COUNCIL" ROLE STATEMENT - GENERAL The Education Council is the central forum for educational discussion, standard setting and educational policy recommendation to the College Board. ROLE STATEMENT - SPECIFIC The Education Council, within the limits of College policy, will: A. Provide an open forum for the broad debate and review of all educational issues. Bis Participate in long-range educational planning, and advise the President and Board on educational issues. Ce Make recommendations and decisions on matters of educational standards, policy and procedures. D. To review and advise the administration on all new programs intended for implementation, and programs for which substantive change is intended. ES Encourage educational innovation. F. Support the implementation of activities to evaluate and improve the quality of education. G. Adjudicate appeals against recommendations and decisions of the Department Committees. RESPONSIBILITY The Education Council is responsible to the President, and through the President, to the College Board. The members exercise individual judgement in accord with College philosophy and policy, on behalf of the College community. APPEAL The Education Council's recommendations and decisions are subject to appeal to the President, and through the President, to the College Board. he
