Please return completed surveys ASAP to the Institutional Research Office, or call local 5440 for more information. za George Wootton Scholarship Two scholarships (of approximately $850 each) in honour of George Wootton, the first president of Douglas College, are available this year to graduating students in any program who have shown: 1) superior scholastic ability, and 2) significant participation in College and community activities. Candidates for this award must be nominated by a student, staff member or faculty member. Nominations must include a letter of recommendation outlining the reasons for the nomination. Graham...continued from page 1 community college at his retirement in 1983. “He worked tirelessly to bring accessible education programs of high quality to students in the Douglas College region,” said Bill Day, former President of Douglas College. Graham had a long career in primary and secondary education. Beginning in the early 1930’s, he worked as teacher, principal and superintendent in Dawson Creek, the Peace River region, Chilliwack and Trail. After becoming Superintendent of Schools for New Westminster in 1960, he became interested in responding to the demand for accessible post-secondary education in the Lower Mainland. In 1991, Graham wrote and published a history of Douglas College. A gathering to celebrate Stewart Graham’s contribution to Douglas College and to British Columbia will be held 2-4pm, Monday, April 15, in the Douglas College Room (Level 1). Everyone is welcome.
