Alumni Association benefits students past and present ; By Shaylee Pérez Associate News Editor n Tuesday, February 17", and on Thursday, February 19", Douglas College’s Alumni Association held a marketplace for the students of David Lam and New West campuses respectively. The marketplace was held to raise funds for the bursaries that the association grants every year, and a way to liven up the concourse for the current students and faculty who look forward to the annual event. The Alumni Association, which gave out roughly $11,000 last year in grants is a resource for those who have graduated or transferred from Douglas College and wish to continue their connection to the college. The association grants a bursary three times a year to students who have completed 45 credits, whether as a part of a university transfer program or a set program of study, be it a citation, diploma, or a degree. They also promote the Alumni Card, which gives past graduates permanent access to on-campus facilities such as the library and student rate discounts as well, for a one-time payment of $10. The vendors present had an array of items from necklaces featuring the popular designs of Chanel and Juicy Couture, Louis Vuitton wallets and First Nations hand-carved sterling silver symbols to East African arts and crafts. All proceeds made from every event hosted by the association go directly towards the students. The Alumni Association also urges students to bring their resumes to the career fair being held March 11 at the New West campus, and March 12 at David Lam. Students should dress professionally, and treat the experience like they would any job interview. Representatives from a wide range of companies and industries will be present exposing students to possible networking opportunities.
