DOUGLAS wae | ARCHIVES October 17, 1985 TO: Mad Hatter FROM: Ralph Stanton (Former Member Health and Safety Committee) : ARTICLE IN OCTOBER 9, 1985 MAD HATTER "DOUGLAS COLLEGE BUILDING INSPECTION". Your article is a useful summary of the results of the visit of three inspectors from the Occupational Environment Branch to the College but some elaboration might be of interest to College Personnel. Specifically: Ls The visit concerned only areas where concerns were expressed to Health and Safety Committee members. It was not comprehensive. It may be that there are areas of the College where problems remain. If individuals are experiencing health problems they suspect are building related, they should contact an H&S Committee member. 26 The visit was limited to a time period of two days and for the most part measurements were taken only on one occasion. Conditions inside the building can change hour by hour, day by day, and season by season. In other words, we have to continue to monitor conditions within the building and hopefully continue to test from time to time. ai One test in particular, the relative humidity test, showed that the conditions were close to the bottom of the accepta- bility scale. That is, the College has a tendency to be dry. This dryness may affect some individuals more than others. 4. The carbon dioxide test (demonstrating air quality) turned out well and this is reassuring; however the limitations on the scope and time of the testing remain. Finally, please note that I am no longer a member of this committee. My replacement is Connie Broatch who is very | interested in health and safety issues. Yours truly, Wi em RS/jj Ralph Stanton
