Op-Ed March 12, 2003 The Starving Student Mother Hubbard OP Recipe Guru Anyone up for a little ptarmigan? Get your minds out of the gutter and into the frying pan, folks—ptarmigan is Alaska’s state bird. It seems that in the late 1800's, hungry gold miners, looking for chicken, spied ptarmigans. Before those birds could squawk in protest, they were wrung, plucked, and spun over a campfire. Licking the grease off their lips, the miners decided to name a town after these birds. However they could- nt agree on how to spell ptarmigan, so they named it Chicken. To get to Chicken, take the Top of the World Highway, cross Chicken Creek, turn left and you'll hit downtown. As long as you don’t mind the lack of constant electricity, phones, televi- sion and indoor plumbing, you'll have a blast drinking goats’ pepper juice and cinnamon schnapps at the Chicken Bar. . ? Honey Garlic Chicken (or Ptarmigan) 8 skinless chicken thighs 1/3 cup vinegar 1/4 cup honey 2 cloves garlic 2 tsp salt 1/2 tsp dry mustard 1/8 tsp pepper Preheat skillet, medium-high. Place chicken in skillet and cook 6—7 minutes on each side. In a bowl, mix the remaining ingredients together and pour over the cooked chicken. Lower the heat, cover the skillet with a lid and allow to simmer until the sauce thickens, for about 30 minutes. oe ew wee ee ee wee eee ee we ewe eee eee ee eee ee eee eee eee een, the other press http://otherpress.douglas.bc.ca Still won't talk eh?
