You've heard his name whispered around the water cooler. Yes, Shaun Majumder is that funny East Indian guy from Newfoundland. Well, he actu- ally likes to be referred to as “beige.” Majumder grew up in Newfoundland and later Mississauga. While his racial backround is made up of Indian, Irish, and English, it is his Newfoundland accent that is memorable. It makes each joke just that much funnier. Majumder attended Dalhousie University, then moved on to work Canadian comedy clubs before moving out to LA. After appearing in several films, he landed a gig on Cedric the Entertainer, which is now regrettably cancelled. Majumder, however, is still around. If you are home on a Friday night, then, as a Canadian, it is your duty to tune into This Hour Has 22 Minutes, where you will find that Majumder has recently been added to the cast—and rightly so. His youthful take is refreshing and entertaining. Majumder has a website that represents his multi- faceted, extroverted personality. The most amazing page of the site is the photograph section. Majumder has taken various unrelated pictures of his travels. Not only is the quality of the images amazing—to the point where he could be a professional photog- rapher—but he has also recorded some coloured commentary to accompany each photo. His engaged tone and candid honesty leave the viewer/listener with a feeling of a connection—A connection to the artist’s experience, a task every artist aims to obtain. His site also includes a word game, a guest page, photos of him, his friends, and family, and through- out the site you will find little messages such as, “I love you, mom.” Sadly, the main page has a note from Shaun announcing the recent passing of his mother. Only a truly great comedian could smile through the pain of such a loss. To see Majumder live is an unforgettable experi- ence. He recently made an appearance at Lafflines in New Westminster.
