This is not garbage Look for posters about recycling in all fieldbases and photocopy rooms throughout the College. You'll be amazed at the amount of stuff that can be rescued from the garbage and tossed in those cardboard boxes — not just many varieties of paper, but sticky notes, envelopes, file folders, magazines, phone books, other books and more. You don’t even have to remove paper clips, staples, rubber bands, tape, labels, plastic tabs, plastic spirals or wire spirals from the paper you recycle. Toss it all in the box. If you need more recycling boxes for your area simply call local 4552 to have a Building Service Worker bring them to you. To get your recycling box emptied, put the full box in the hallway at the end of the day on Friday, or take it down to the loading dock any time during regular office hours. This message is brought to you by the Douglas College Green Team. To get involved, attend the next Green Team meeting Thursday September 23, 12-2pm in the Boardroom, New Westminster Campus. For more information, call local 5503. Briefly Personnel on the Lam During September, the Personnel office will be open on Tuesdays at the David Lam Campus. Carol's a winner! Assist students with planned giving Planned giving: it’s a wonderful way to help students achieve their educational goals while protecting your assests and reducing your tax liabilities. Planned giving takes many forms, such as a large donation dispersed over a number of years, a bequest in a will, or the benefits of a matured life insurance policy. With the money it recieves from planned giving, the Foundation can establish endowment funds, a permanent pool of donated capital held in trust by the Foundation and invested to provide scholarships and bursaries for students, capital items or program-specific funding for the College. By giving to Douglas College you accomplish several things. First, your gift will strengthen the College so that it is better able to serve students. Second, your gift can reduce your current and/ or estate taxes. By utilizing certain types of planned gifts, you can increase after tax income, receive a current tax deduction and reduce estate taxes. Third, your gift can honor the memory of, or pay tribute to a friend or relative. Recently, two very generous bequests generated approximately $5700 each year in International roundtable bursaries and scholarships for music students and single mothers. In recognition of the importance of endowment funding, the government of British Columbia and the College have provided matching funds when the donation comes from College employees. Every dollar donated by a College employee is matched by one dollar from the government and one from the College. For more information about planned giving, please contact Foundation Director Myrna Popove at 5873. An International Roundtable has been scheduled \for Wednesday, September 29 from 4-6pm in rooms 1630/40. This event will provide a communication exchange for faculty and staff focusing on the international activities which have been occurring across our Faculties since relationships were established in China two years ago. Activities in other countries, such as Hungary and Egypt, will also be highlighted. The entire College is invited to attend this discussion. Come visit Sharon, Dale, Betty, Sandy and Debbie and get a behind-the- scenes look at what goes on in Payroll (beyond signing all of our paycheques). There'll be a surprise theme as well as contests and prizes for lucky visitors. Remembering Virginia A memorial gathering honoring Virginia Chisholm will be held October 7, 3-5pm in the Douglas Room. Every is welcome to come and share their memories of Virginia.
