An inside look at excellence The second annual Celebration of Teaching, Learning, Program Innovation and Scholarly Activity offered guests an insightful look into teaching practices and the learning environment at Douglas College. Participants discovered that technology enhances learning in a variety of ways. Sign language interpretation can be taught online and with the use of CDs. Foreign language study is improved by the use of electronic tablets. Theoretical models, such as Neuman’s Systems Model, can be animated for interactive learning. Displays showed how geography can come to life in a graveyard and “mind mapping” can help students learn. Theatre-set models illustrated the intricacy and complexity of design required to plan a performance. Visitors also explored the world of bugs and bison, and discovered how combining history and mystery can develop investigatory skills.
