SP, Teachers | Let's Go ! q a SUMMER PROGRAMME “Cans” IN CHINA Programme objective This programme is designed for teachers (elementary, secondary and college) and other adults interested in acquiring first-hand information about the language and culture of the People's Republic of China. Programme outline The Chinese State Education Commission in co-operation with the China Education International Exchange Association has developed this unique programme exclusively for AFS and Interculture Canada participants. A one day pre-departure orientation will be held in Vancouver; departure for the People's Republic of China will take place the following day. Your group of 10 Canadians will be met at the airport in Tianjin where you will join your 10 American counterparts. The Tianjin No. 1 Middle School will be the site of all classes and your accommodations (single room double occupancy) will be in the newly built school dormitory. The campus also boasts a swimming pool and is quite modern by Chinese standards. The programme curriculum consists of 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for a total of 120 instructional hours. Classes will be divided as followa: 1. The Basic Elements of Chinese Language t 60 classes 10/week 2, Chinese Traditional Physical Training - Wu Shu 24 classes 4/week 3. Introduction to Chinese Culture History 6 classes 1l/week Geography 6 classes 1/week Drawing 6 classes 1/week Calligraphy 6 classes 1/week Cooking 6 classes 1/week Fine Art 4 classes Modernization 2 classes Weekends will be considered unplanned free-time to practice basic Chinese language skills, familiarize oneself with the gurroundings and undertake short touristic excursions. Programme dates Applications should be received by Interculture Canada by April 30th, 1987. This six week programme will begin with a pre- departure orientation in Vancouver on July lst and end with the return trip to Canada on August 15, 1987. Participation fee The participation fee of 3,800 $ includes domestic and =a international airfare (fixed date tickets), orientation costs, accommodations in Canada and China, administration and travel insurance for six weeks. Personal expenses and entertainment. are at the cost of the participant. A 500 $ deposit will be required with the submission of an application to the programme. This amount will not he refunded in the case of withdrawal after May 30th, 1987. The outstanding balance must be paid by June lst, 1987.
