Cynthia Fulton returns to her work in Criminology and Smythe rejoins the Geography department. “Although I am sad to see Cynthia and Susan leave, as they were wonderful co-workers, I’m excited to welcome Julia and Thea to the Douglas Development team. Robinson joined Douglas College in 1982 and has developed a deep sense of what challenges —and successes - both learners and instructors have experienced here at the College. Robinson founded and developed the College's award-winning Learning Centre and this semester launched a pilot on-line tutoring project. “In my time at Douglas College I have seen how students learn as well as how my own teaching experience affects them. It’s a unique point of view but it’s not the perfect view. For additional information, please contact Rosemary Small at 604-527-5375. Farewell and welcome to Board members The Douglas College Board saw some changes heading into the Fall semester. The Board welcomed Mary Hemmingsen as a new appointed community representative at its August meeting. Hemmingsen is currently the General Manager, Capital Plans, Asset Management and Projects at BC Hydro and has also held senior positions as director, vice president and manager in key areas of Hydro’s operations. Hemmingsen has served in a number of financial management roles for the Greater Vancouver Regional District (GVRD), the Alberta Securities Commission and KPMG. She holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from Simon Fraser University and a CA designation. At the end of July, June O’Connor completed her term as an appointed Board Member. During her term she served as Chair of the Finance Committee from April 2002 to July 2006, and as Co-Vice Chair of the Board from March 2002 to May 2004. Recognizing great teams The Team Excellence Awards were created in 2004 to honour quality achievement at Douglas College. They recognize a team- based quality effort. The award, presented to teams of two or more individuals, is presented at the annual fall recognition event in November. “For the two years these awards have existed, the small committee that reviews the nominations and makes the selections has been most impressed with the number, range and quality of nominations. To receive priority registration, please ensure you fit into one of the following categories: You attended classes or applied for admission for the Winter 2006, Summer 2006 or Fall 2006 semesters. * You are a College employee who has taken academic courses at Douglas College in the past, but did not attend classes or apply for admission for the Winter 2006, Summer 2006, or Fall 2006 semesters. Apply for readmission online or complete an Application for Readmission form to reactivate your student number. Identify that you are a College employee when reapplying. * You are a College employee who has not yet taken academic courses at Douglas College. Complete an online application for admission at www.douglas. bc.ca/applynow. Ensure that you have met the entrance requirements for the program of your choice.
