It’s time for a quick breather. After six weeks of hearing about Jean, Kim, Pre- ston, Audrey, Lucien and Mel (we'll let him in, even if the debate organizers wouldn’t), we’re now going to endure eight weeks of tinsel-toned ads for happy holiday shoppers. To give you a needed break, here’s a chance to catch up on what’s happening around the campus. Wendy a Winer... You won’t be running into Wendy Watt (Student Services) at the photocopier in the near future. Wendy began a one-year leave in November and is off to Richmond to begin her career as a beer and wine expert. Wendy and her husband will be operating a new business called The Brew- ing Experience, so if you want to begin brewing in your basement give Wendy a call. Babies, babies, babies... Congratulations to Myrna Wing (Thomas Haney Centre) who became a first-time grandmother this fall and is now being visited by her new grand-daughter, McKenzie, up from Cleveland, Ohio. Con- grats also to Lisa Barone (Financial Aid) who is expecting a baby sometime in May. Courts court Connie... The sentence for Connie Frick (Purchas- ing Department) is at least three weeks away from her desk at Douglas College. Connie, who isn’t allowed to tell us any- thing about the case, was selected for jury duty in October. She should be back by December. Cruising after 40... We weren’t supposed to tell, but two Douglas College employees turned 40 last month. Yvonne Mostert (Administration) and Sandra Hartney (Payroll) both hit the big 4-0 and both received wonderful surprise gifts of one-week cruises from their families. Sandra will cruise to sunny Mexico while Yvonne buffets and sun- bathes her way around the Caribbean. One more coincidence; both their future cruises will set sail on the same day. ZESNE Sun shines on autumn leaves... Many Douglas College employees had the good sense to work through the rainy sea- son we endured this summer and enjoyed sunny fall vacations instead. Sherry Walker (Thomas Haney Centre) cruised to Los Angeles, reportedly winning big in the ship’s casino, before heading to the bright neon of Las Vegas...Maureen McGee (Administration) cruised the other way to enjoy Alaska... Arnie Driver (Printshop) travelled to Yellowstone Na- tional Park...Terry Leonard (Facilities) spent a month in Hong Kong and Indone- sia...and wanting to catch a glimpse of the wonderful fall colors of New England, Heather Anderson (Student Services) toured Massachusetts. Staff stuff... Judy Murray (Developmental Education) will be replacing Wendy Watt. See you at the photocopier, Judy! Welcome to Heidi Hornub, the new Clerk-Typist in Health Sciences, and Alain Delise (Modern Languages), a Native Language speaker (French)...in CP&S, Judith MacLean is the new So- cial Services programmer... Peter Taylor will be replacing Agata Leman as the In- structional Assistant for the Consumer Job Preparation Program... Willda Noniewicz is the new Benefits Clerk in Personnel replacing Janet Westwood. Welcome back to Geraldine Murphy (CP&S) and Maureen Wilkinson (Library). Maureen had an unfortunate accident while on vacation in Los Angeles and is now back after 4 months of R&R. And it’s official: Mary Hatch (Lincoln Centre) is now the Training Services Co-ordinator for Contract Services. Retiring from Douglas College... A good-by and we will miss you to Helen Gilbertson (CP&S). Helen has been with the College for eight years and will retire on Dec. 3. See you in December. A Dorothy Jones (left) retired a year ago but was on hand October 1 for a party honor- ing this year’s retirees. Among those leaving us are General Nursing’s Ruth Gilliatt and Biology’s Ken Lobo (not pictured) as well as Home Support Worker's Betty Emery (second from left) and Music’s Henry Waack (right), posing with wife Elenor.
