9s Mad Hatter | A Douglas College Newsletter October 2/7, 1986 ALEXANDRA BROWNING As part of the Four Great Canadian Musician Series, Vancouver-born Alexandra Browning will perform at Douglas College on November |, 1986. The first perform- ance of the series by Marek Jablonski was a great success as he stunned the audi- ence with his piano recital. Music lovers should not miss Browning as she is sure to continue the high calibre of talent in this series. Browning's recital will be made up entirely of works by women composers. The list includes Clara Schumann and Canadian, Jean Coulthard-Adams who has set to music the words of James Joyce. Browning has had a long association with the distinguished English Opera Group, founded by Benjamin Britten. During her years with the company she made several tours of Europe singing major roles in most British operas. Since returning to Canada in !977, Browning has appeared in recitals for the CBC and has performed with major orchestras across the country. In performance with the Canadian Opera Company she has sung Sieglinde in DIE WALKURE, the Countess in THE MARRIAGE OF FIGARO and Donna Elvira in DON GIOVANNI. Browning combines this career with her position at the University of British Columbia where she is a professor of voice in the Department of Music. She will be accompanied by pianist Robert Rogers, a fellow professor at U.B.C. Tickets for this performance can be obtained at the Douglas College Box Office - 520-5488.
