The event was the first international women’s wrestling meet ever held in Canada. Royals sweep to victories Douglas College teams stayed in the ‘win’ column on the volleyball and basketball courts in recent collegiate action. The Royals women’s volleyball team recorded its most decisive victory of the BCCAA season, defeating Columbia Bible College 3-0 (15-5, 15-5, 15-13). Charity Crozier led the way with six kills and one block as the Royals improved their season record to 5-1, good for third place. The men’s volleyball team scored a similar 3-0 victory over the CBC Concords (15-12, 15-6, 15-9), led by the strong hitting of Bruce Neid and Kal Heywood. The Royals’ record stood at 3-2 as both men’s and women’s teams prepared to face rival Vancouver Community College on Nov. 23. In exhibition basketball action, Vern Knopp’s basket with only two seconds remaining lifted Douglas College to an 82-81 win over Everett Community College. Knopp led all Royals scorers with 24 points and 16 rebounds. In women’s hoop action, Tilly Woods collected 15 points and 16 rebounds as the Royals trimmed Everett 58-49. m
