men and women who give at least passing
thought to the cultural values of the average
citizen, rather than just the material interests
of the most wealthy and loud. The pathetic
way in which this minor issue — which is quite
obviously an issue of spoiled, commercial
entitlement clashing with that of common-
sense morality—is being inflated into some

epic drama of human rights shows just how

thoroughly entrenched this subsidized class
really is.

If the Liberals were a weak-willed,
enabling parent, then the Conservatives are
a stern but frugal disciplinarian. They’ll
let you have your porn and indie rock, but
only after you get a job and pay for it with
your own damn money. Tough love for the
spoiled child, perhaps, but it’s the only way
he’ll learn.
