INSIDE DOUGLAS COLLEGE / March 3, 1992 Department profile - Systems and Computing Do you have a computer related problem, or want to know about some facet or other of the com- puter usage at Douglas College? The following list will direct you to the appropriate person(s) within Systems and Computing. Remember, please call the Department's receptionist number (5330) to log any service calls. These service requests are logged and are, in general, responded to on a first-come first-served basis. SUSAN GREFFARD, RECEPTIONIST The Receptionist is responsible for receiving visitors, answering the telephone, handling the departmental mail, correspon- dence, and filing departmental documents. The receptionist can usually answer basic questions about WordPerfect products usage. Susan also handles inven- tory updates and maintains control of computer manuals and software. JAMIE MICHAEL, COMPUTER OPERATOR/TECHNICIAN Jamie is responsible for the day- to-day operation of the computer room. She initiates and monitors the data file backups, runs the higher-speed line-printers in the machine room and ensures that adequate supplies of paper, rib- bons, etc. are on site. She is the person to call if you need data transferred between different com- puter media (ie. MAC to PC or vice versa). Jamie assists in the in- ventory and placement of computer equipment on campus and provides a first-line level of trouble-shooting for printers, ter- minals and PCs. CAROLE NELSON, COMPUTER USER SUPPORT Carole has been seconded (half- time) to the BANNER project to help implement the new Student Records system. In this capacity, she will coordinate the documen- tation with user training segments, as well as perform other duties as they arise. The Systems and Computing Department (I to r): Geoff Campbell, Carole Nelson, Mark Coumont, Jamie Michael, Darryl Karleen, Susan Greffard, Marsh Price. Missing — Phillip Cloma. In her other half-life, Carole is responsible for the preparation of instructional materials (manuals, handouts, etc.) for employees, and the planning of ongoing train- ing programs for WordPerfect- based office automation. She teaches these courses to College employees. In addition, Carole su- pervises the office paperwork regarding software and some hardware. She also supervises the maintenance of the manuals, software inventories and the Departmental filing systems. GEOFF CAMPBELL, COMPUTER OPERATIONS MANAGER Also seconded (full-time) to the BANNER project, Geoff will be un- dertaking some of the more technical tasks (from a computer point of view) of the BANNER im- plementation, such as hardware and software configurations, data conversion programs and proce- dures and Oracle code modifications. Some of Geoff's usual tasks have been divided throughout the Department, while the main set of duties have been picked up by Mark Coumont. MARK COUMONT, COMPUTER TECHNICIAN Mark has been temporarily as- signed some of the duties which Geoff Campbell was responsible for prior to his secondment to the BANNER Project. Mark thus has the challenge of many of the operational aspects of the INLEX(HP) system, the Data General computers and the Ether- net configuration. He also coordinates the connection of ter- minals and PC’s to the “Network”, as Well as the Stat/Mux and modem connections and high- speed lines to Kwantlen and Maple Ridge. Mark is also familiar with many desktop publishing packages. PHILLIP CLOMA, COMPUTER TECHNICIAN Phillip is one of our three Com- puter Technicians. He is our “board level” expert and is primari- ly responsible for the micro- computer hardware maintenance. Phillip is becoming our Apple MAC, OCR and OMR expert and he assists the other technicians with software, LAN, and installa- tion problems or maintenance.
