Pet Mad Hatter Page 5 Last week, I made a formal presentation to College personnel regarding the budget outlook for next year. A copy af this presentation has been included in the Board packages. The fall graduation occurred on October 11. The event was we | | organized, and for the first time, we used the performance theatre for this purpose. It is clear, that the gynmasium 75 viewed by many people as being a less attractive site for a graduation than alternative models, such as. for example, use of the performance theatre; use of the concourse; or possibly, a totally different approach, such as departmental or divisional graduation ceremonies. topped off with a relatively shart culminating reception - perhaps in the concourse. Over the next two or three months, we will be reviewing alternatives. INTERNAL ~ PERSONNEL On September 27, the staff members in the Admissions Department organized a retirement party for Mayme Furber, one of our senior Staff people, who has always been very active in the community, as a college advocate. The party was well attended, and a fit- ting tribute. On October 5, I had the pleasure of hosting a small luncheon in honour of Mr. West Graydon, to commemorate his Six years of exemplary work at Douglas College. Mr. Graydon is now in the thick of the complex and stressful activity at Expo 86, as Director of Construction. I have discussed with him, the possibility of a College tour of the site, and/or a special presentation of their information program. West has told me that he would be happy to make such arrangements, and so I will be pursuina the matter. The negotiations with the B.C.G.E.U. are commencing. A number of staff meetings have been held, in order to build up ai infor- mation base that will assist in a Speedy round of negotiations. A mediation set of meetings has been heid with the Uouglas/ Kwantlen Faculty Association. Further direction from the Board will se required. INTERNAL - GENERAL On October 2, I convened a meeting ef all excluded personnel to examine, discuss, and outline plans for using the report of the Administrative Review Committee to best effect.
