LG Fashion Week: Canadian Trends - A sneak peek at what spring has in store By Stephanie Trembath, Life and Style Editor ( Nook debut fashion show took place October 18 — 23 in Toronto last week with renowned designers showing off their spring collections. While the rest of the world hikes up their knee socks and looks for lost gloves, these models displayed spring clothing baring lots of leg and whimsical colors as they walked down the runway. Featuring over thirty designers from all over the world, the LG Fashion Show displayed upcoming trends for spring this year; so ladies, be sure to keep all your spring pieces from last year in beige, ice green, and salmon pink, because they’re making a comeback in 2011. Toronto’s Fashion Week, which is sponsored by non-other than L’Oreal Paris, brings together media industries, buyers, and consumers of the fashion world in furthering the Canadian fashion economy and increasing the designers profiles. Featured at the Toronto fashion fest were a number of notorious Canadian designers, as well as a few up- and-coming names to look out for. Amanda Lew Key, who was born in Toronto and attended Ryerson University for her bachelors in fashion design, is a newer face to the industry as she focuses on high-end street design. At the young age of twenty-one, her collection has been showcased at Holt Renfrew and in August of 2010 she won Canadian Flare Magazines student editorial competition for her clothing brand. lfFE ana SLYIE At Toronto’s fashion week Lew Key’s signature ice-blue lipstick highlighted the models faces as they sauntered down the runway. Lew Key used a lot of nude tones and asymmetrical lines in her spring wear. The contrast in her choice of color and shape allows for a feminine touch to come through the distinctive edginess Lew Key created in the shape of her clothing; romantic beiges, pale pinks, and soft grays were featured in cutting edge clothes that were tailored in high necked shirts, and skinny tights. Another featured Canadian born designer, Wesley Badanjak, utilized bright pinks, yellows, and soft greens in his spring collection. With a distinctively flirtatious yet professional style to his clothing line LOVAS, Badanjak, who completed his honours in fashion design at Ryerson University and continues to live in Toronto also had wide skirts paired with form fitted tops, thin belts over delicate ruffled shirts, and long chain necklaces with gemstone detailing which really accentuated Badanjak’s clothing at Toronto’s big event.
