INSIDE DOUGLAS COLLEGE / August 20, 1991 Banff scene captured by Douglas College alumnus Marcel Finnigan. Finnigan’s take The images of Douglas College alum- nus Marcel Finnigan range from photos of Mother Teresa and Fijian Islanders to landscapes of Banff National Park which Farcus © Farcus Cartoons inc. +990 That’s the third smoker we’ve lost this week! have been compared to the work of the great photographer, Ansel Adams. “| like to use my camera as a way of exploring my fascination with other people, other cultures and different en- vironments,” said Finnigan. “At the same time | have always been drawn to the almost mystical beauty of desolate, uninhabited landscapes where the time- less force of nature asserts its own power. Too often we look at nature in terms of its relationship to our own lives rather than as an environment with its own life and rhythms.” Four of Finnigan’s black-and-white na- ture photos are now on art cards available at the Douglas College Book Store. The New Westminster native completed the Graphic Design program in 1981 just before the program was transferred to Kwantlen College. He later graduated at the top of his class from Montreal’s Dawson Institute of Photography. Finnigan has lived and worked in Australia, the Northwest Territories, and Fiji and now resides in Banff. m Submissions invited The Student Finance and Placement Of- fice is inviting submissions from Douglas College personnel for one-time (non- repeating) projects to employ students in part-time positions.
