Dont Forget

1. Symbols don't take periods ex:
cept at the end of a sentence.

2. Symbols are never pluralized. It
is 1g or 45 g (not 45 gs).

3. A symbol is not used to start a
sentence; spell out the word.

4. Leave a full space (en cr em)
between the last digit of the number
and the symbol, e.g. 89 cm (not
89cm). But 32°C is correct.

5. A prefix is always combined
with the unit to form one word.
It's kilometre not kilo metre and
millilitre not milli litre.

6. Symbois are the same in ail
languages and are printed in upright
type.

7. The decimal separator is a pe-
riod in English copy; it is a comma
in French copy.

8. The use of decimals is recom-
mended with metric, e.g. 0.25 g (not
1/4 9).

9. Always place a 0 in front of the
decimal marker when the number is
less than 1. It is written like this
0.15g. Anumber greater than 1 is
written as 15 g.

10. i) Spell out unit name when
numbers are not used. Carpet is
sold by the square metre (not m2).
