SPORTS REPORT RUGBY TEAM TOP OF THE LEAGUE The Douglas ruby team leads the Totem Conference rugby league after defeating Capilano College by a score of 20-0 on Sunday. Capilano put up a gallant fight and never quit against the heavier and more experienced Douglas squad. Douglas led by a score of 8-0 at the half, the result of tries by captain Dave Jagger and Phil Sharpe. In the second half Capilano came out with their guns blazing, but Douglas managed to stem the tide, with Bill Hourston and Brian MacAdam making some fine saves for the home team. Gradually, however, Capilano wilted under the Douglas barrage, and Douglas increased the score to 20-0, the result of another try by Phil Sharpe and a conversion and two field goals by Brian MacAdam. Douglas leads the league with 6 league points followed by Simon Fraser with 4 points, Malaspina with 2 points, and B.C.1I.T. and Capilano without any league points to date. On Sunday Douglas takes on S.F.U. at Hume Park at 13:30 P.M. SOCCER TEAM WINS ONE, LOSES ONE AND TIES ONE The Douglas College soccer team played erratic soccer last week tieing with B.C.1I.T., beating Trinity and losing to Okanagan. On Wednesday at B.C.1I.T. Douglas were enjoying a 3-1 lead with only minutes left in the game when they seemed to relax allowing B.C.I.T. to level the score after an incredibly cheap goal and a completely unnecessary penalty goal. Goal scores for Douglas were Andy Marshall, Lloyd Kennedy and Gino Nonni. /0 1 . | DOU aE { | sce On Friday, Douglas had a relatively easy time blanketing Trinity Western College 2-0. Douglas were never really threatened, and for the most part the Douglas second string team were on the field. | “AS | | Saturday's performance against Okanagan was a repeat of Wednesday's game. Douglas held the upper hand for most of the game and were enjoying a 2-1 lead when Okanagan scored after an Okanagan player had knocked the Douglas goalie off his feet. The referee allowed the goal, Douglas players lost their composure, John Savoei of D. C. got expelled from the game for fighting, Okanagan scored another goal and that was it. Douglas now have a 2 wins, 2 losses and 1 tie record and will have to virtually win all their remaining games if they hope to win the championship. Scores for Douglas against Trinity were Schofield and Coplin and against Okanagan Savoie and Schofield. Next weekend Douglas takes on Selkirk College in a double header. GOLF The Douglas College golf team in- creased its lead to 10 strokes over Malaspina College in the Totem Conference golf championship held in Castlegar over the weekend. Douglas won the overall scoring race again in Castlegar as they did two weeks ago in Kamloops. In addi- tion, Bob Hobbs won the low nett, Gordon Mink won 2nd low nett and Fred Kato and Bob Hobbs tied for 2nd low grass.
