douglas college Inter Office Memo Date: March 5, 1985. oO To: All Personnel From: _ git) nay Re: __EpPco ACTIONS At its recent meetings, the Educational Policy & Planning Committee has given approval to the following: 1. Changes to Admission Requirements and Course Prerequisites: This is an addendum to existing admissions policy. Policy/Regulation: New admissions procedures, requirements or course prerequisites may not (will not) be implemented until the academic year following the year in which the revised requirements or procedures are published in the College Calendar. Rationale: When implementing new admissions procedures or criteria, it is necessary for the College to provide adequate lead time for the prospective students to fulfill the requirements without delaying their progress. College Philosophy Statement: In providing learning opportunities, the College is one of a complex of institutions, and must coordinate its offerings with those of other institutions and agencies. Objectives: The objective of this policy is to avoid unnecessary delays in the students progress from secondary school to college and beyond. The lead time described in the Policy/Regulation section allows time for students to meet the requirements. Also, for students not in secondary school but returning to education, immediate implementation of new requirements leaves them unable to enter at the planned time. One Year Temporary Policy: Admission Criteria for Registered Psychiatric Nursing: This relates to the program the Ministry transferred from BCIT to Douglas College. It is a variance for BCIT students who will now take our program - in effect, it is a one-year grandfathering arrangement. For admission to the Psychiatric Nursing Program in September, 1985, and January, 1986, applicants who satisfy the BCIT admission requirements will be O considered to have satisfied the Douglas College requirements to be considered Type I (Class A) applicants. After the spring, 1986 intake, entrance requirements will revert back to those stated for Douglas College.
