Jim Doerr Micro-Computer Course Any taculty or staff who are interested in a one week long micro-computer course should contact Hean Hammer, local 4903, and leave their names within one week of the publication of this announcement. Terry Clement Overhead Projectors Maintenance program: Once per week, each overhead projector is cleaned and checked by Library staff. There should be no need for faculty to clean the lens or the projection "stage". However, if it is necessary the surface of the "stage" can be wiped with water and a soft cloth (no soap or windex). Dry it carefully with another cloth. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO CLEAN THE UNDERSIDE OF THE "STAGE". This surface is extremely susceptible to abrasian and recently two projectors have been irreparably damaged due to harsh cleaning. | am hopeful that the maintenance program (newly established) will preclude any need for faculty to clean any part of the projector. Thanks for your co-operation. Virginia Chisholm Sartre and de Beauvoir The lives of two of the most controversial people in modern history will be looked at during a special lecture and film presen- tation on Jean Paul Sartre and Simone de Beauvoir at Douglas College. Presented on Thursday, March 28, an after- noon session from 1230 to 1400 hours will feature a panel discussion on the politics, philosophies and literary outputs of Sartre and de Beauvoir. de Beauvoir Over looked While Sartre is well known for his many writings and viewpoints, de Beauvoir, his life long intellectual companion, has often been overlooked. As the author of "The Second Sex" and "The Coming of Age", de Beauvoir made many contributions to modern philosophy in her own right. The Douglas College instructors sitting on This pane! discussion are Ralph Stanton of the Library, Dr. Jim Davies of the Philo- sophy department and Marie-Claire Chinniah of Modern Languages. How was de Beauvoir's Philosophy Developed? Following up the discussion will be a film at 2000 hours that evening in French with English subtitles, describing in depth the life of Simone de Beauvoir. "Simone de Beauvoir", the film, was shown at the 1982 American Film Festival and is an excellent starting point for any person interested in discovering how this great thinker's philosophy was developed. Sartre and de Beauvoir, the discussion, will take place in room #2203.
