One of the lower mainlands most famous writers, Leona Gom will make a spedaal appearance at Douglas College at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, March 13 in room #3410. In addition to her position as a writing instructor at Kwantlen Cdlege Gom edits the popular Event magazine, and her most recent book is Northbound Poems Selected and New. Gom also won the Canadian Authors Association Award for a previous work, The Land of Peace, in 1980. The final presentation in this series of noted Canadian authors, poets and playwrights will feature Douglas College's own Dale Zieroth Douglas College President Bill Day, February 1, on behalf of company vice president Dave Smith. Murray, the distinguished writer, author, poet, playwright and novel- ist will be setting up office at Douglas College between February 4 and 9 to help others get on the road to publishing. Dr. Murray is a former faculty mem- ber of Douglas College and is probably best known as the winner of the 1982 Pat Lowther Award for best Canadian female poet. DOUGLAS COLLEGE NEWS SERVICES White Spot Sponsors Writer Douglas College's new Writer-In- Residence program was given a helping hand last week when White Spot Foods Ltd. presented an $800 cheque to brirg Dr. Rona Murray to New Westminster. Gerd Formella, White Spot manager of operations made the presentation to Benefit Concert On March 2, 1985, the members of the Music faculty at Douglas College will join forces with several commer nity musicians for a gala benefit concert. The program will include two brilliant works arranged for two pianos - "La Valse" by Ravel and "El Salon Mexico" by Copland performed by Ellen Silverman and Barrie Barrington. They will be joined by singers Ruth Huan Suzuki, Kathleen Fearn, Tatsuo Hoshina and Dennis Lysack in the beautiful and lilting "Liebeslieder Waltzes" by Brahms. The concert will start at 8:00 p.m. in the Performing Arts Theatre and admission will be $8.00. Proceeds will be used to launch a fund to buy a good quality grand piano on which students can practice.
