MEDIA RESEARCH WORKSHOP Sponsored by: Douglas Collede Capilano College National Film Board of Canada Shawnigan Lake School Vancouver Island July 2nd to 19th, 1974 This year's Media Research Workshop is organized by Douglas College and Capilano Colleae in cooperation with the National Film Board and pro- mises to be as successful as others held across the country by the NFB and sponsoring institutions. It will take place at Shawnigan Lake School on Vancouver Island, an hour's drive from Victoria or Nanaimo. The site ovrovides 160 acres of forest and gardens, opportunities for swimming, boating, tennis, squash and weekend trips to points of interest and beauty. The workshop is of interest to people who would like to help one another gain a better under- standing of the effects of new and old media on human exper- ience. The emphasis will be on the impact that technologies have on institutions and on persons, and on the resources, for the most vart- personal, that encourage a human response to change. The project is being organized by Jack Finnbogason and Jim Sellers of Douglas College; Paul Azaroff of Capilano College; Doug Eliuk and Mark Slade of the NFB In addition, guest film-makers and visiting resource people will be involved. The schedule will comprise full working days throughout the three weeks with optional evening and weekend sessions. Resources include a wide variety of films, film stock, Super 8, 35mm and Polaroid \ cameras, portable videotape equipment, graphics, sile screen, sound synthesis, and the environment itself. But the most important resource will be the people who participate. The Media Research Workshop will enrol a maximum of thirty people. There is no fee charged for the workshop and it is hopec that participants will find enough.support from a sponsorinc institution, school board or employer to defray the costs of room and board. Everyone is expected to contribute to the program over the entire three- week period. That is because the proaram is you. We do not encourage those whose interests are in techniques of production or who are concerned with audio-visual services.
