LEAVE OF ABSENCE

Andre Piquette, Counsellor from New West and Steve Sharpe,
Counsellor from Coquitlam, were both granted a leave of absence from
September 1, 1979 to August 31, 1980 in order to try their hands at

CALL FOR MAGAZINES

No, it's not a paper drive! The English-as-a-Second Language (E.S.L.)
discipline now has nearly 160 students in several different classes in
Surrey, New Westminster and Richmond. Many of these students have little
or no knowledge of English and in order to teach them basic vocabulary
items we are trying to build a picture file of common and not-so-common
household and other items. Since magazines can supply most of the pictures
we need, I would appreciate it if you would donate your old magazines to
the discipline. Please mail them to me via campus mail or drop them off
at. my office N.W. 709.

If you have friends or neighbours who would benefit from an E.S.L.
class at Douglas College, please have them contact me at local 277 in
New Westminster. Thank you.

The New Westminster Staff, Faculty Halloween luncheon was a great
success and was of considerable entertainment to the student body as
well - they saw even more strange characters wandering around than is
usually the case! Many thanks to the people who helped out at the

& luncheon and special thanks to the GREAT PUMPKIN.
