Bian 9/11 conspiracy theorists have no respect for our intelligence By Caitlyn Therrien s Canadians we enjoy our right to vote, and with this right we band together to support a political party that we hope will responsibly lead and represent us. The month of May is once again voting time, and political parties are battling for our support. It is a time to think of who we want to represent us in the eyes of the nation, and in the eyes of our province. Election signs are, of course,.an important part of every campaign. One day as I was driving down Essendene Avenue in Abbotsford a new sign made my jaw drop, an enormous white sign and on it was painted in immense bold lettering: “9/11 was an Inside Job. Legalize Marijuana. Vote for Tim Felger.” . The sign was from the store Da Kine as a desperate attempt to gain support and publicity for Tim Felger, a candidate for the Marijuana Party. I find it disgustingly disrespectful for anyone to say such things about such a traumatic event, and I find it to be a cheap way for the Marijuana Party to get attention. Personally, I thought that the lame conspiracy theories on 9/11 were long since dead, but I guess I was wrong. I would, however, like to know what proof the stoner shop Da Kine has and what proof that the Marijuana Party has. If 9/11 were in fact about oil we would not be struggling to scrounge up money to put in our gas tanks. The facts about 9/11, do not indicate in any way that 9/11 was an inside job. It’s a ridiculous theory. 9/11 was a terrible event that changed the world forever. That day, many people were killed. Parents were left without children, and children were left without parents. It should never be an event to look down upon, or to use for publicity. The signs, such as the ones at Da Kine, not only disrespect the people who died on 9/11 but they disrespect and belittle our soldiers. Our troops who are sent to Afghanistan to prevent an attack like 9/11 on us, to fight for women’s rights, their empowerment, and to fight for the freedom which we often take for granted. These signs disrespect brave men and women who fight, risk their lives, and those who have lost their lives in serving their country throughout wars past. Even those who do not support the war should give the victims of 9/11 as well as our country’s soldiers the respect they deserve. Now it is again the time when we enjoy our right to vote, a time we enjoy our freedom without even realizing it. Nobody can tell us who to vote for, or who to support, but after you’ ve chosen your party and your leader remember that you’re choosing someone to represent you. Would you like someone who is respectful, intelligent, and will lead with honour? Or would you like a leader who relies on ridiculous conspiracy theories for publicity? It is your duty to try to make an intelligent, educated decision whenever you make your mark on that ballot. Without educated decisions we are as ridiculous as those conspiracy theorists. Banning erotic ads won’t save lives By Natalie Nathanson n the wake of the deadly trail left behind by the “Craigslist Killer,” talk of new regulations in regards to making the popular social networking site safer are taking place. Plans to rid the website of its erotic ads are being discussed in an attempt to prevent the sexual predators from finding their victims online. The idea, put forward by Connecticut Attorney General Richard Blumenthal, is meant “to stop ads that lead to horrific brutal tragedy such as the Boston murder, as well as other violent crime, human trafficking, or exploitation of children.” I’m not personally one to cruise these ads, but I think ridding them completely is ridiculous. Sexual predators will always find a way, through any medium, to lure victims into their web. Look at Willy Pickton; he’s accused of being Canada’s worst serial killer by killing potentially more than 40 women, and he did it all without the use of internet. What’s next—a ban on inviting chicks back to your dirty barn to party? At least with 6 the erotic section, those advertising know (or should know) the possible danger they’re putting themselves in. If they decide to nix these erotic ads, they might as well begin looking into eliminating all chat rooms and forums that exist online. Because, let’s face it, even in the Yahoo! Chess chat room, people aren’t always talking about rooks and kings. People are going to get murdered either way regardless of who they are and what their purpose is for posting any kind of ad on the internet. Why nix the erotic services section when just as many deaths have occurred in other sections? Most of them seemingly harmless! In November 2007, a woman in Minneapolis was murdered after responding to a babysitting ad on Craigslist. Why not get rid of that too? Meeting people in person after only knowing them online can be dangerous, and it’s something the public should be aware of so they can take their own steps to protect themselves. Something as innocent as a simple babysitting job turned out to be a deadly trap for a young girl. If someone has blood on their mind, banning sexy ads won’t stop them from killing. People who live their life in these kinds of lifestyles knowingly put their lives in danger. If it isn’t the Craigslist Killer that gets them, it’ll be the Yahoo! them. If people want to put themselves in these situations, let them. These are adults, and I’m sure they’re well aware of what can happen to them. Quit trying to regulate everything. If someone Slayer, or the Facebook Exterminator. wants to advertise giving kinky Or maybe something as random asthe — massages, it should be okay.
