HOOP BOOSTERS TO AID STUD ENTS It’s Magic time. College Foundation Executive Director Mark Crozet, Foundation Chair Bill Gartside and Athletic Director Betty Lou Hayes were all smiles when they met basketball legend Magic Johnson at a Grizzlies-sponsored reception in Vancouver on November 30. You can be part of the Douglas College bunch hooping it up when the Vancouver Grizzlies take to the hardwood next fall in their first National Basketball Association season. The College’s Foundation has announced it will organize the Douglas College Vancouver Grizzlies Fan Club and offer packages allowing people to contribute to student award funds while they attend Grizzlies’ games. The Fan Club kick-off takes place on Friday, February 10 during the Royals’ men’s and women’s basketball double- header (6pm and 8pm) against Trinity Western. In a special arrangement, the Foundation obtained a block of 50 tickets for each Grizzlies’ home game. The Foundation keeps 10 percent of funds from each ticket it sells but does not pay for unsold tickets. Douglas College was the first educational institution to conclude such a fund-raising arrangement with the team. “T think this is an exciting opportunity for the College. An important part of this relationship is that it also allows us access 10 to the expertise of the Grizzlies’ marketing staff, and that can be very useful when you are involved in fundraising work,” says Foundation Executive Director Mark Crozet. Pricing and packaging of the tickets is still being finalized. Plans being considered include ticket discounts and special events for club members as well as making large blocks of tickets available to student clubs or College employee groups for selected games. fl
